FAQs

Log in / Register on this site as part of your workplace / campus group to check what challenges are live in your organisation. Please note that events hosted on this website are only open to Partners of the Smarter Travel Workplaces and Smarter Travel Campus programmes – tell me more.

You can take part as a Captain or a Team Member. If you’d like to be a Team Captain, you can set up a new team – please ensure you have the minimum number of team mates required for the Challenge you are doing so that your team qualifies for prizes.

If you’d like to be a Team Member, you can search through the list of teams for your group and choose one to join.

Please note that Team Members and Team Captains need to accept invites sent by email to join teams. Please check your spam folder if you are waiting for an invite that has not yet arrived.

Contact your group Coordinator or Smarter Travel Workplaces/ Smarter Travel Campus if you want to find out about taking part in any of the challenges listed for your group.
You can use a step counter on:
  • Your phone
  • Your fitness tracker
  • A step counter/pedometer

You will need to manually enter your totals in the Active Travel Logger website. As different brands/ types of step counters will count steps with varying degrees of accuracy, you must use the same step counter from start to finish of each challenge.
For walking challenges, you can only log what is recorded on your step counter - so aerobics, running and gardening are fine, but NOT cycling, swimming or other activities where you do not wear a step counter – these are not included. This makes for a more level playing field.

For cycling and public transport challenges, you can find out more about what types of trips are included for a particular event on the Smarter Travel Workplaces / Smarter Travel Campus websites.
Leaderboards will be updated through out challenges when they are live. As the length and type of challenge on this site will vary, you can check the details of the challenge you are interested in by getting in touch with your group coordinator or Smarter Travel Workplaces / Smarter Travel Campus.
This is a question Team Captains are asked when setting up teams for some challenges. Team captains should answer ‘yes’ if most members of your team are based at a desk during working hours in order to qualify for the desk based leaderboard.
Prizes vary depending on the challenge. Please check the Smarter Travel Workplaces / Smarter Travel Campus website for details of prizes for particular events, or you can contact your group Coordinator or Smarter Travel Workplaces / Smarter Travel Campus.
Only Partners of the Smarter Travel Workplaces / Smarter Travel Campus programmes can take part in challenges hosted on this website. Your workplace / campus must 'opt in' to participate in a particular event by appointing a coordinator, sourcing prizes, promoting the event etc.

If your organisation would like to become a Partner, or if you want to find out more about participating in a particular event, please get in touch.
If you can’t find the details you need, please contact your group Coordinator or Smarter Travel Workplaces / Smarter Travel Campus.
